Favourite bike lanes around the world

There’s nothing quite like getting on a newly paved bike lane and being able to ride without fear of a pothole. However, there are bike lanes around the world that have integrated a whole new standard: beauty and function. Here are few of the ones we love.

  1. As Canadians, our favourite bike lane is not the fanciest or prettiest but it is definitely the most practical. The heated bike lanes in The Netherlands are just the summum of what bike lanes could be. The heat generated melts the snow and ice making the lanes much safer in winter. We just can’t wait until this technology finds it’s way back to us!

  2. Lachine Canal bike path in Montreal has one of the best views we’ve seen. Cafés, restaurants as well as the historic Atwater Market all run along the path and you can ride to Old Montreal making it a perfect way to visit the city. You can also hire a swan pedal boat when you get tired of pedalling on land.

  3. Starry night bike lane in Eindhoven is another one of our favourites. Not only does it have solar panels embedded in it which generates heat for residents, it also lights up at night which would make our long winters a little more colourful.

  4. Vancouver has a many great bike lanes to pick from but it is hard to beat a ride through Stanley Park. With restaurants, historic sites and beaches and trails along the Seawall as well as through the park, it’s easy to spend a whole day here with your bike.

  5. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the newly minted bike lanes along Bloor, University and the Danforth. Making these busy streets safer for cyclists has been a game changer in making our rides more pleasurable (and safer!).
