If you cycle around Vancouver, you must be in awe of the amazing number of vibrant food-trucks with tasty fare on offer. Whether it’s berry and jalapeño ice-cream, west-coast salmon burgers-supreme or kimchi poutine, you will never be lacking for awesome cuisine.
In an effort to promote the city’s diversity and to support a robust street life, Vancouver expanded its food truck licensing program in 2010. Prior to the expanded program’s launch in 2010, vendors were mostly small carts selling hot dogs, chestnuts, popcorn and ice cream bars; the very first being a hot dog vendor in 1978. There are still close to 200 “food carts” throughout the region and 300 food trucks in Vancouver and Victoria.
Here is a snackable overview of the food-truck scene from experienced, local entrepreneurs.
