What is a subscription e-bike? Why wouldn’t I just buy one?
E-bikes are the future. They are part “1st bike” of your childhood, part urban people mover, and all fun. But they’re also an expensive, evolving technology, without a good support system in place.
Zygg’s service is designed to get you (back on) a bike, and keep you riding, right across the city. Simple. Hassle-free. Awesome customer support. Here are a few of the many reasons why Zygg's subscription e-bike service makes sense over owning.
Maintenance & Repairs
If your electric bike needs maintenance, it can be pricey and keep you off the road for days. With Zygg, we fix it or swap it out for a fully maintained bike at no cost, usually within 24 hours. We pick up and deliver, or you can come by our central location if you prefer. No waiting days or weeks, and no paying extra to fix it either. With Zygg, it's all included.
Several Models
We have several models of bikes to choose from, so if you need a change, we can help keep you enjoying an electric bike to the fullest. A new work routine means you need extra rack and basket space on your commute? Maybe a smaller bike makes more sense now that you moved to that second floor walk-up with no garage. Or you want a bike with a higher range to go on longer rides with your neighbourhood bike group. There's a Zygg for all of that!
Battery Life
The battery like of an electric bike with constant use can deteriorate over time like the battery of your phone. With a subscription you don’t have to worry about this as we monitor our bikes and make sure they are performing adequately and update our models.
Limited Theft / Damage Liability
E-bikes are expensive purchases - Zygg's models range from $3,000 to $4,000 - and as much as Toronto is a safe city, we all know bike thefts are all too common. You may be reluctant to lock your electric bike outside, and that might keep you from enjoying it to the fullest. With Zygg, if you follow our bike locking protocol and your bike is stolen, our basic limited theft / damage liability policy means the most you would pay to get a new bike would be $750 (Model G & V) or $500 (Model M) . And if you sign up for reduced theft / damage liability at $10/month you can bring that deductible down to $150. That feels a bit less risky.
Zygg is constantly evolving
Zygg plans to evolve along with electric bike technology (which is moving fast) to continually upgrade with new options. Every year we swap out your bike for a fully maintained one so your subscription will ensure you always have choices and are riding on a newer model.
Storage
If storage space is an issue at your place, we will pick your bike up for the winter, store it, and deliver a fully tuned up bike when you are ready to get back on the road again.
Pricing plans
Only in Toronto for part of the year? Not sure if an electric bike will work with your lifestyle? Ready to sign up and make a 12-month plunge? We have a variety of pricing plans to suit your level of commitment.
Do the Math
You might be doing the math and thinking, "Well at $99 /month for Zygg, in just over three years, I would have bought my own e-bike". Sure, but by then your electric bike will be three years old and its battery's life nearing its end. Remember how little time cellphone batteries lasted a few years ago compared to today? There's a lot of investment in the electric bike industry right now so technology is evolving fast. In that same three years, Zygg will be on a newer fleet of electric bikes with even longer battery life, smaller batteries and chargers. And don't forget to factor in the cost (and headache) of any repairs you might have made to your bike over the years, minus the time you were off the road dealing with them.
